Prof. Dr. med. univ. Elmar Herbst, PhD, was born in 1989 in Bolzano, South Tyrol, Italy. He studied Medicine at the Medical University of Innsbruck, where he graduated in 2013. He subsequently completed a PhD in Musculoskeletal Science.
He completed his specialist training in Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery at Klinikum rechts der Isar, Technical University of Munich, and at the University Hospital Münster. Most recently, he served as Deputy Head of the Department (Managing Senior Consultant) at the University Hospital Münster and, in 2024, was appointed Adjunct Professor at the University of Münster.
His clinical expertise focuses on knee surgery, particularly ligament reconstruction, meniscal surgery, cartilage restoration procedures, and corrective osteotomies, as well as general sports traumatology and the treatment of tendon injuries.
